On the shore of the Sea of Galilee, in front of the Golan Heights you can find the boutique hotel Song of the Sea. The hotel, which was built in 1850, is situated in an old basalt stone building with many archways that characterized the Ottoman architecture. At the beginning of the 20th century it was customary to name hotels in Tiberias after cities, and the hotel was called Haifa.
In 1946 the famous Egyptian singer Umm Kulthum, named "the star of the east" stayed at the hotel, and following her visit the hotel's name was changed to "Star of the East".
After the foundation of Israel the famous painter Shimshon Holzmann stayed in the building and opened there a large art gallery. Among the many bohemians that visited the house, stayed there and even painted it were many famous painters such as Nachum Guttmann, whose painting "the promenade of Tiberias" is exhibited in the hotel's lobby, Reuben Rubin, Amos Yaskil and many others, including Holzmann himself.
